Hundreds in costume at the Home and Heaven Festival
The Heima and the Heavens costume and games festival is just around the corner. It starts on Friday, 29th August and runs all weekend. Scenery will be put up tomorrow. The costume workshop is later today.
Home and the Universe is coming soon
Up to 100 people will be in full costume at the Heimar og himingeimar costume and gaming convention, which will be held at Hafnarfjörður Library from 29th to 31st August. This fantasy world for costume enthusiasts is then open to visitors.
„We expect that many hundreds of the guests will also be in costume,“ says Unnur Helga Möller, events manager at Hafnarfjörður Library. The festival was a great success last year and will be even more spectacular this year.

A rapidly expanding world
„This is a world that matters. It's growing very quickly at the moment, as it's so easy to make a costume. All you need is your imagination,“ says Unnur. The costumes are of all shapes and sizes.
„Worlds and universes ranges from costumes born from an imagination finding an outlet at the Red Cross to perfect recreations of film costumes worth many hundreds of thousands of kroner,“ she describes.
The festival for the second time
The costume and role-playing festival Worlds and Heavens is now being held for the first time. „Rimmugýgur will be on site, HEMA Reykjavík will be holding historical sword fights and the Laser Sword Society will be bringing their laser swords. You will be able to fight Darth Vader, whom people will recognise from Star Wars.".
That's not all. You'll be able to take a peek into the wonder world of the 501st, see Marie Antoinette get into her costume, and much, much more.
- Boffer Workshop
- Robot hunting
- Combat shows
- the costume
- Giant bride
- Demonstrations of crafts: leatherworking, armour-making, sewing and calligraphy.
- Cosplay competition with international judges
- The 501st Division
Unnur says the world of costume is varied and diverse. She asks, „What is a costume? What is the definition?“, and answers.
„Yes, a costume consists of clothes that create a complete look. The Icelandic national costume, for example, consists of a bodice, a skirt, a cap and more. On its own, each item is not the Icelandic costume, but it becomes one when all the pieces are put together.“
- Ahead of the festival, costume-making workshops, so-called Kit and Cosplay workshops, will be held at Hafnarfjörður Library. The last one today. You can sew your own costume for the festival there and get help with it. „Bring your own material,“ says Unnur.
Yes, there are exciting times ahead!
