Let's dress the community in pink in October

The Cancer Society of Iceland's annual awareness and fundraising campaign, the Pink Ribbon, has begun. Pink October and the Pink Ribbon are dedicated to the fight against cancers in women. This year, the Cancer Society is focusing on the importance of solidarity and the colour pink as a symbol of it. The Pink Ribbon flags have been hoisted in Hafnarfjörður and will be flown throughout the month. Women's cancer affects everyone in the nation at some point in their lives, and it is important to unite in the fight and show solidarity with the cause. Visible unity can move mountains and change everything for those battling cancer and their loved ones.

Pink Day on Friday, 20th October

The Pink Day is the highlight of the Pink Ribbon and has enjoyed ever-growing popularity in recent years. On the Pink Day, people across the country are encouraged to go pink for all of us, and the aim is already set on this year's Pink Day being the pinkest one yet, in keeping with the campaign. Pink Day will be held on Friday, 20th October, and the short days will be lit up with a pink glow so that all women diagnosed with cancer can feel the solidarity of the community. The Cancer Society is involved in all aspects of cancer. The association works in a variety of ways to reduce the number of people who get cancer, increase the number of people who survive, and improve the quality of life for those diagnosed and their loved ones.

The strength and support for the initiative enables the association to:

  • Supporting people with cancer and their relatives with free advice from nurses, psychologists and social workers.
  • to support Icelandic cancer research, which includes the causes of cancer, prevention, treatment and the quality of life of patients.
  • engage in various educational and preventative activities, run courses and more, with the aim of reducing the risk of cancer and improving the lives of people with cancer.
  • to advocate for and promote improved conditions for people with cancer.
