Margrét Sverrisdóttir, Headteacher of Öldutúnsskóli
Margrét Sverrisdóttir was appointed principal of Öldutúnsskóli for the first time yesterday. She has been a member of staff at the school for two decades. Over 600 pupils attend the school.
Established but new at Öldutúnsskóli
Margrét Sverrisdóttir has been appointed headteacher of Öldutúnsskóli. Pupils and parents know Margrét well. She has been a fixture at the school for the past twenty years. She was acting headteacher at the start of the year and was appointed in the spring.
Margrét holds a Master's degree in Education as well as a postgraduate degree in the management of educational institutions. For a quarter of a century, she has worked in primary schools as a teacher, department head and headteacher, but has spent most of her career as a deputy headteacher, specifically at Öldutúnsskóli. She then worked for a time at an after-school club in Copenhagen. She takes up the reins with great enthusiasm.
„It's always a special feeling to move between roles and see how different the projects are,“ she says. She is taking over a solid position at this well-established school and is placing the emphasis on teamwork. „I am really pleased to be trusted with the job and to be able to lead the school's good work.“
Öldutúnsskóli is one of the town's oldest schools, but teaching there has been continuous since 1961. It is also the largest, with just over 600 pupils in years 1-10, of whom 220 are in the senior school. The school's latest feather in its cap is the Home-School award, received a year ago, for its well-being meetings, which are designed to strengthen the partnership between the school and parents. The well-being meetings have been adopted by other schools.
„The winter is off to a good start,“ says Margrét. „The school term started yesterday and everything is up and running. There was team-building today and then the games begin.“ And what will the main priorities be in the work? „Good and rich communication with parents and pupils.“
We welcome Margrét to continue in her role!
