Norðurberg does good deeds that give and bring joy

News

Since 2016, the staff at the nursery school Norðurberg have supported a good cause instead of giving each other Christmas presents at their annual staff Christmas party. This year, the children's work of the Women's Refuge in Reykjavík was chosen, and their representative, or a representative of the children, social worker Bergdís Ír, visited the nursery yesterday and accepted a cheque for the amount of 72,500 króna. All the organisations that have received the donation to date have one thing in common: they are protectors of children.

The associations have in common that they are protectors of children.

Bonfire, song and joy in the heart

Staff and pupils shared a wonderful and beautiful moment together at the nursery's fire pit, located in the garden with the nursery's oldest pupils. A bonfire and singing were enjoyed in the beautiful weather, as the 2021 Advent good deed was presented.

Staff have delighted these organisations at Christmas in recent years:

  • 2016 Single children
  • 2017 Care – Association of Children with Chronic Illness
  • 2018 The Spark – The Spark – charity for children with heart disease
  • 2019 The Drop – a charity for children with diabetes
  • 2020 Birchwood

Tin can fund for a project against hunger in Somalia

In addition to this contribution from the nursery staff, all the nursery's tin money goes to the Red Cross's children's work, and has done for several years. This year, the money is going directly to a project related to the anti-hunger campaign in Somalia. Parents and guardians of the nursery's children have taken an active part in this project alongside the nursery. A representative from the Red Cross comes annually on St. Lucia's Day to collect the donation.

Well done, Northberg school community!
