Here's what you need to know about the Hafnarfjörður leisure grant. The grant is intended for all children and young people aged 6-18 who are registered for active sports and leisure activities. It is a monthly grant to reduce participation fees.
Hafnarfjörður Leisure Grant is intended for all children and young people aged 6-18 who are registered in active sports and leisure activities. It is a monthly grant to reduce participation fees. When registering online with sports and leisure clubs, within or outside Hafnarfjörður, parents and guardians can choose to use the grant and deduct it from the participation fees.
This is what you need to know about the leisure grant:
- For children aged 6-18 with their registered address in Hafnarfjörður (based on year of birth)
- The grant may be used for music studies.
- The leisure grant can be used to pay for a gym membership or a similar access pass related to sports and physical activity for those aged 16 and over. The passes must be valid for three months or longer, subject to certain requirements for member education and administration. The entitlement is valid from the New Year of the year the child turns 16.
- Reimbursements are exclusively for members and recognised bodies that have organised instruction/training for at least 10 weeks at a time, with a minimum of one session per week.
- The council's subsidy is a maximum of 4,500 kr. per month per participant.
- The leisure allowance will never be higher than 54,000 kr. per year.
- Payment receipts received by the 15th of each month and which meet the criteria in the regulations will be paid around the 20th of the following month.
- Receipts older than two months from the course start date are not accepted.
- A grant from the association cannot be refunded or reversed once a parent or guardian has allocated the grant to the association.

Participation in sports and leisure activities is important for all children.
The aim of the leisure grants is to promote sports activities and other preventative work, and to enable children with their registered address in Hafnarfjörður to take part in organised activities, regardless of their families' financial circumstances. The grant is also intended to counteract the undesirable dropout rate in older age groups of participants. Research has shown that it is important to keep children and young people active in sports and leisure activities, and to ensure equal access for children and teenagers to such activities.
