In my view, the event programme at Hafnarborg, developed in collaboration with GETU, aims to make its activities accessible to more people.

Open events are offered where visitors are welcomed in different languages. These include art workshops, guided tours and other cultural activities, with an emphasis on creating a welcoming and accessible space for people from diverse backgrounds.
The aim is to facilitate participation, promote social interaction and enable more people to enjoy what the Harbour City has to offer.

Hi! Let's meet up and have a chat. Collapse icon

Hi, fancy popping by for a chat?

At Hreiðrið, we are offering an open session for young people of foreign origin aged 16–25. The aim is simple: to meet, get to know each other and have a good time together in a relaxed environment.
We meet once a week for a relaxed chat, socialising and practising Icelandic in everyday situations. There is no formal teaching, but rather a space to practise the language at your own pace, meet other people and take part in what is on offer at Hreiðrið.
Growing Roots Collapse icon

Uppskera is a collaborative project that takes place over the summer in Hafnarfjörður, combining vegetable growing with community participation. The project is run in partnership between Heilsubær Hafnarfjarðar and the organisation GETU, and focuses on families from diverse backgrounds.

The aim of Uppskeru is to strengthen connections between people, support inclusion and promote well-being through shared participation in growing vegetables and fruit. Participants meet regularly in the community gardens at Víðistaðatún, where they grow vegetables together in an accessible and safe environment.
In the project, families are allocated garden plots and receive guidance from a horticulturist, along with support from staff and volunteers. The emphasis is on togetherness and education, where participants learn from one another and build peer-to-peer relationships.
Uppskera thus combines sustainability, health promotion and social participation. The project creates a platform where not only vegetables are grown, but also friendship, trust and a stronger community.
