Porridge, fruit and free school supplies

Starting primary school is a big step in every child's life, and at such a milestone, collaboration between home and school is extremely important. A supportive upbringing and good cooperation are essential for children and young people to thrive at school and to recognise their own strengths. Since the autumn of 2019, all pupils have been able to have free porridge in the morning at school. In addition, a fruit subscription is offered for morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack, whether or not a child attends the after-school club (the afternoon snack is included in the after-school club fee) (and is otherwise paid for separately). School Food Ltd Manage the catering service in all the town's primary schools, except for Áslandsskóli, and should contact them regarding meal subscriptions.School food.is) The City of Hafnarfjörður also provides primary school pupils with educational materials free of charge. Autumn term – harvest festival in spring

As autumn approaches, it is pleasant to look back, in words and pictures, at one of the many festivals that were held in various parts of town and school districts last spring. The school community at Skarðshlíðarskóli, for instance, organised a well-attended and splendid spring festival at the school in early June, and it was the second time in the school's history that it had done so; the school is the newest primary school in Hafnarfjörður. The festival's organisers ensured a wide variety of entertainment was on offer, and young and old alike found it interesting to learn about the equipment and apparatus found in fire engines and ambulances. Bouncy castles, food stalls, a climbing wall, a dodgem car and the circus artist Húlladúlla. The weather was kind to everyone, and the festival was very well attended and a great success.  Notice of the festival on the school's website
