Vesturkot Nursery School celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Vesturkot has been operating for thirty years.

Vesturkot Nursery School is 30 years old. Collaboration was at the forefront of headteacher Særúnu Þorláksdóttir's mind as the milestone was celebrated last Friday. The eldest children sang for the guests to a round of applause.

„Cooperation, a zest for life, freedom, joy, friendship, camaraderie, love, ambition, understanding, patience and creativity are qualities that the staff experience here at Vesturkot,“ Særún said in a short speech to the guests, former and current staff of the nursery, and town officials. She spoke about how the nursery had developed and what was on their minds at this milestone. She recounted what the eldest children had said when asked what they thought of Vesturkot.

Proud of the school, the children and the staff

„They said it was fun to be in the hall and to go outside to play.“ She read sentences attributed to the children. „He is my friend. I love Vesturkot every day. I love him and always want to be there.“ They wanted cake, cars and milk and to be with a friend and friends.

„I am incredibly proud of the school and all the staff here,“ said Særún at this celebratory moment. „Nurseries, whatever their ethos, always aim for children to feel good, to make them independent and socially strong to face life and the next stage of their education. To foster creative thinking and to make them care for themselves and others.“

The Vesturkot Nursery School is situated on Hvaleyrarholt in Hafnarfjörður. It is close to nature, with the rugged lava field at its doorstep and the beach just a short walk away. On average, 84 children aged 18 months to six years attend the nursery school.
