Hraunvallar School awarded
This spring, a competition was held to promote the project: Velkomin – a resource for reception and communication. First prize was awarded to Hraunvallaskóli for a communication tool that facilitates the reception, integration and communication of schools with pupils and parents whose mother tongue is not Icelandic.
This spring, a competition was held to promote the 'Velkomin' project – a resource for reception and communication. Hraunvallaskóli won first prize, and the school's staff, Ingibjörg Edda Haraldsdóttir, Kristín Guðnadóttir and Hjördís Ýrr Skúladóttir, won. Promotional video about the project. The awards were presented on Friday, 9th June in the presence of staff from the school and representatives from the education and leisure services. Hulda Karen Daníelsdóttir, the project manager, presented the awards.
A communication tool that facilitates reception, integration and communication for schools.
The 'Welcome' project – a resource for reception and communication – is a communication tool to facilitate the reception, integration, and communication of schools with pupils and parents whose mother tongue is not Icelandic. The material is divided into 13 categories, examples of which are Talking with teachers and parents, The first day, Welcome, Lunch and snacks, and Students' well-being and relationships. The project is based on a foreign model but was developed by the Service Centre of Miðborgar- and Hlíðar, under the leadership of Hulda Karen Daníelsdóttir and Þorbjörg Þorsteinsdóttir. It has been very well received and, among other things, was awarded the European Label in 2015, an award from the European Commission and the Ministry of Education and Culture for innovation in language learning and language teaching.
