Programme for National Day in Hafnarfjörður

8:00 Flags lowered and flag salute at the Rock
The Hraunbúar Scout Group is flying flags all over town.


11:00 National costume gathering in Flensburg
Annríki – National Costumes and Jewellery provides assistance with wearing national costumes and encourages the people of Hafnarfjörður to wear national costumes from all countries. 

13:00 Parade from Flensburg School
March down Hringbraut, along Lækjargata and onto Strandgata to Thorsplani. The Hafnarfjörður Pipe Band and the Hraunbúar Scout Group lead the parade. 

Celebrations in the town centre from 13:30 to 17:00

On Strandgatan there will be stalls, face painting, play equipment, shooting ranges, an obstacle course and bubble balls. The Vinnuskólans art group. A horse-drawn cart will take the children for a ride.

14:00 – The Lotta Theatre Group will be on East Street by the Free Church with a selection of their best bits.

East Street Festival
The hugely entertaining East Street Festival will be held for the eighth time this year. As in previous years, there will be plenty of fun and exciting things on offer. Events will include a cosy café with hot chocolate and waffles, a Thai restaurant, crafts, jewellery, books and several flea markets. There will also be live music in the street throughout the day. The residents of Austurgata welcome Hafnfirðingar and people from the surrounding area to Austurgata on 17th June.

The Rimmugýgjar Viking Festival
Viking festival in Víðistaðatún from 13:00-19:00. Free admission.

Healthcare institutions
Margrét Arnardóttir and Kristín Inga Jónsdóttir visit hospitals and perform Icelandic gems.

Transport and road closures
The town centre will be closed to car traffic during the celebrations:
Strandgata and Austurgata: at Lækjargata
Linnet Path: at Fjardar Street and 23 Hverfisgata
Mjósund: at East Street
Disabled parking at 1 Linnet Path
Residents are encouraged to park legally near the town centre and walk or take the bus to event venues.
We point out the numerous car parks at Lækjarskóli, Iðnskólinn, Flensborg, the Strandgata Sports Hall and Víðistaðaskóli.


Leave the dogs at home
It should be noted that dogs are more comfortable at home than in crowds.
Please note that dogs are not permitted at event venues.
