The First Mile at Skardshlíðarskóli
Pupils and teachers at Skarðshlíðarskóli today ran the first of many „miles“ from the school. It is a project based on a Scottish model called The Daily Mile, and the school is the first in Iceland to take part.
Pupils and teachers at Skarðshlíðarskóli today ran the first of many „miles“ from the school. It is a project modelled on the Scottish initiative called The Daily Mile, and the school is the first in Iceland to take part. Skarðshlíðarskóli opened in the autumn of 2017.

Around 5,000 schools around the world are participants in
the project which involves all the school's pupils going outside daily to walk or jog
or run for 15 minutes. To mark the start of the project at Skarðshlíðarskóli, participants walked about 800 metres to a large stone where they all left their fingerprints on it in the school's colours. The Mile is not a competition, but
A sense of community and joy where everyone goes at their own pace and on their own terms. The experience
has shown that many walk about one mile (1.6 km) in 15 minutes and therefore

Skarðshlíðarskóli has decided to use the name „Mílan“ for its project. Research has
This simple method demonstrates significant benefits for everyone. These include
