This summer, cultural and health walks are on offer every Thursday evening at 8 p.m. Most walks last for about an hour and start at 8 p.m., unless stated otherwise. Participation is free and everyone is welcome.

6th June – Undirhlíðar – an unexpected incident
Einar Skúlason leads a 90-120 minute walk to Undirhlíðar over varied terrain. Along the way, there will be a surprise event or events that make the walk an even more enjoyable experience. From the car park on Kaldárselsveg

13 June – In the footsteps of the photographs
Curator Kirsten Simonsen and architect Magnea Guðmundsdóttir walk through the exhibition 'Tímahvörf', a photography exhibition currently on display at Hafnarborg. They will discuss the town, its development, and its image as reflected in the photographs of eight contemporary photographers. The walk from Hafnarborg

20th June – Children's Walk at 6:00 p.m.
Fanney Rós Magnúsdóttir, a sports scientist, is leading a children's walk around Víðistaðatún. It's a fun walk for the whole family, with warm-ups, games, stretches and relaxation, specially designed for our youngest walkers. The walk starts from the outdoor barbecue hut in Víðistaðatún. The coals in the barbecue hut will be hot after the walk for those who wish to barbecue.

27 June – 110 years of Hafnarfjörður Harbour
Harbour Master Ludvig Geirsson of Hafnarfjörður Harbour leads a tour of the Folk Museum's photography exhibition on Strandgata. The Gang from Drafnarslip

4th July – Family walk in Valaból at 18:00
Kolbrún Kristínardóttir, a paediatric physiotherapist, is leading a walk to Valaból. Participants are encouraged to bring a homemade, healthy snack, as we will stop for a break halfway through the walk. From the car park on Kaldárselsveg

11th July – Lava – where is the beauty?
Kristján Örn Kjartansson, an architect at KRADS, leads a walk through Hraunin, focusing on the neighbourhood as it is today and outlining a vision for its future, which is now undergoing a revitalisation. The walk from Bonus Helluhrauni

18 July – Stekkjarhraun
Jónatan Garðarsson leads a walk through Stekkjarhraun to Lækjarbotnar. The Setberg School Walk

25 July – Krýsuvík
A heritage walk through the settlement of Krýsuvík, the manor farm and the parish church. The path from the car park at the Krýsuvíkurbær settlement

1 August – The Master Builder in Hafnarfjörður
Architect Pétur H. Ármannsson leads a walk between buildings designed in Hafnarfjörður by architect and State Building Superintendent Guðjón Samúelsson, and also discusses Guðjón's ideas for the town's layout. Pétur is currently working on a book about Guðjón and an exhibition to be held at Hafnarborg this winter. The walk from Hafnarborg

8 August – The Literary Town of Hafnarfjörður
Literary scholar Hjalti Snær Ægisson leads a walk in the footsteps of writers and poets from Hafnarfjörður. We will pause outside the homes of several well-known authors, chat about memorable books and read extracts from selected works. Special emphasis will be placed on the period 1940-1980 in prose and poetry, and we will discuss literary works set in Hafnarfjörður. The walk from Hafnarfjörður Library

15th August – Forest walk in Höfðaskóg
Steinar Björgvinsson, manager of the Hafnarfjörður Forestry Society, will lead a woodland walk through Höfðaskóg. Steinar is very familiar with the area around the forest and what the woods have to offer. This time, the focus will be on the tree and rose collection, with a discussion of all the diverse species that have been successfully established in Höfðaskóg. 22 August – Aluminium Walk around Hafnarfjörður
Folklorist Bryndís Björgvinsdóttir will lead a walk visiting several historic and fairy stones in Hafnarfjörður, tracing their history and placing it in the context of various theories about Icelandic belief in fairies. An attempt will be made to answer questions about the difference between elves, hidden folk and dwarves, and where and when elves are most likely to appear to us humans, according to folklore.  The walk from Hafnarfjörður Library

29 August – The Old Town
Björn Pétursson, the town's heritage officer, leads a historical walk around the old town. The Walk from the Packhouse

The Culture and Health Walks are a collaborative project between Hafnarborg, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, the Hafnarfjörður Library and the Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður.
