Öldutúnsskóli is looking for a leisure leader for the youth club, Öldan.

Would you like to work with children and teenagers in a creative and fun environment? We at Öldutúnsskóli are looking for a driven, positive and energetic leisure activities leader to work in the youth club, Öldan, for the next school year. 

Öldutúnsskóli has around 580 pupils in Years 1–10, and we place an emphasis on respect, engagement and well-being in all our school activities.

The youth centre Wave offers pupils in Years 5–10 a varied and ambitious after-school activity programme. The programme is based on youth democracy, active participation and a strong preventative approach. Here, young people have the opportunity to enjoy themselves in an open youth club, a structured programme, group activities and a variety of events, which are organised in partnership between staff and young people.

The job is particularly well-suited for students or individuals looking for an exciting part-time job.

Key projects

  • Participate in planning and developing a diverse programme in collaboration with managers, colleagues and young people.
  • Engage actively with children and young people and encourage their participation.
  • To create a positive, safe and constructive social environment based on respect and democratic practices.
  • Support the initiative, safety and well-being of children and young people.
  • Perform other duties in accordance with the leisure instructor's job description.

Educational and competency requirements

  • Job training, courses and/or work experience that is useful in the job.
  • Experience in a similar role is an advantage.
  • Initiative, a positive attitude and the ability to work independently.
  • Good organisational skills and punctuality.
  • A wide range of interests that are utilised in work with children and young people.
  • General computer skills.
  • Good command of Icelandic. Competency-based criteria are required. C1 in accordance with the criteria of the European Language Portfolio.
  • A clean criminal record is a prerequisite.

The Council is in office from 24 August 2026.
