Hafnarfjörður is seeking a social worker for the advisory team. This is a temporary position. until 31 December 2026

It is desirable that the successful candidate can start work as soon as possible. The job is full-time (100%).

The Department for Family and Child Affairs is responsible for a diverse range of services for the residents of Hafnarfjörður, with the aim of ensuring their financial and social security. Emphasis is placed on comprehensive social services, interdisciplinary collaboration and early intervention. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on integrated services in accordance with the Act on the Integration of Services for the Well-being of Children.

Hafnarfjörður emphasises ambitious and professional work for the benefit of its residents.

The aim of the work is to provide social advice and to offer services to individuals and families in accordance with the Act on Municipal Social Services.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Provide social advice to individuals and families.
  • Reception and assessment of applications for services (general advice and financial assistance) and their processing.
  • Early intervention in the affairs of children and families
  • Works on professional strategic planning and innovation in the department for the local authority.
  • Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Master's degree in Social Work.
  • Experience of working with children and families is desirable.
  • Experience of therapeutic work and working in a multidisciplinary team is desirable.
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Initiative, independence in work methods and organisational skills
  • Good command of Icelandic and English, both spoken and written.

Salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and BHM.
