Setbergsskóli is looking to hire for an exciting role working with children and young people at the youth club 'Setrið', which is part of the school's leisure centre. The youth club offers children and young people aged 10-16 a platform for a varied and enjoyable leisure activity programme after the end of the school day.
The aim of the role is to give children and young people the opportunity to take part in creative and developmental social activities in a healthy, equal-opportunity environment, and to create a platform where they can build their self-confidence and social skills. The youth club coordinator is responsible for organising and developing a varied programme in collaboration with children and young people, which takes their interests into account at all times.
This is a 50-100% position. The working hours are partly in the evenings on weekdays and partly during the day. A varied working schedule is on offer.
Key responsibilities and duties:
- Planning the professional work of youth centres
- To engage in prevention by being a positive role model, educating, discussing, and positively influencing children and young people on various issues related to their daily lives.
- Implementation and organisation of work in collaboration with the department manager, staff and children and teenagers
- Fosters good cooperation and the flow of information between different parties.
- Acts as a mentor, providing staff with guidance and/or instruction on how to carry out their work.
- Works on collaborative projects, sits on committees and working groups related to the work of the leisure centre.

Educational and competency requirements:
- A university degree (BA, B.Ed. or BS degree) in Leisure and Social Sciences, Education and Educational Studies, Primary Teacher Education, or a comparable qualification relevant to the post.
- Experience and interest in working with children and young people
- It is desirable that the candidate has worked in a day-care centre or a youth club.
- General computer skills
- Good command of Icelandic and English
- Ability to organise, initiative and independence in work methods
- Communication and collaboration skills in human interaction
A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.

The salary is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Municipalities and BHM.
