Hraunvallaskóli is looking to hire a School and Leisure Assistant on a 30-48% contract for the 2026-2027 school year at the Hraunsel leisure centre.

This is a position that involves providing support and assistance to pupils at the after-school club, Hraunsel, in the afternoons on all weekdays. Hraunsel offers a wide range of after-school activities from 13:20 to 16:30 every weekday, regardless of the children's ability, development or disability. A special emphasis is placed on catering for all groups. It is possible to increase your working hours by also applying for a position as a school and leisure assistant at Hraunvallaskóli.

Hraunvallar School is unique in that both a nursery and a primary school are run within its walls. The school operates according to the open school philosophy, and the building was designed with this in mind. Teachers work together in teams during lessons and in the planning and preparation of teaching. Pupils in the same year group are in common tutor groups with a shared form tutor in their home areas. Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Assistance with professional work with students
  • Works under guidance from the next senior manager.
  • Fosters good discipline and positive communication
  • Monitors and assists students in play and work.
  • To involve as many people as possible, regardless of ability or development, in a variety of activities and to take full part in the activities and events that are organised.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Experience of working with children is desirable.
  • Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum of C1 according to the ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)
  • General computer skills
  • A great interest and ambition to work with children
  • Constructive in communication, flexibility and a high degree of collaboration.
  • Initiative and autonomy in work methods
  • Punctuality and conscientiousness

A condition of employment is that the person has a clean criminal record.

The remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities and the Hafnarfjörður Staff Association.
