Víðistaðaskóli is seeking leisure leaders for the youth club, Hraunið. The position is for approximately 25 hours per week and is suitable for students or those looking for a part-time job, as the working hours are outside of normal business hours.

The youth club Hraunið offers children and teenagers in Years 5 to 10 a venue for a varied and enjoyable leisure activity programme in the school building after the regular school day has finished. The work is based on youth democracy and a preventative approach. Hraunið is a venue for open social activities, a structured programme, group work and various events that the staff organise with the young people.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Participates in organising and shaping a varied programme.
  • Extensive communication and collaboration with children and teenagers
  • Create a positive atmosphere based on respect and democratic working practices.
  • Support for the initiative of children and adolescents ensures their safety and well-being.
  • Other tasks as per the job description

Educational and competency requirements:

  • On-the-job training, courses and/or some work experience is sufficient to acquire the required knowledge.
  • Experience of working with children and young people
  • Very good Icelandic skills, at a minimum of C1 according to the ETM Self-Assessment Framework (coe.int)
  • Punctuality and organisational skills, initiative and the ability to work independently
  • A wide range of interests that are utilised in the work of community centres.
  • General computer skills

A condition of employment is that the applicant has a clean criminal record.
