Final phase of the Nordurgarður reconstruction – construction begins
Construction work on the garden's reconstruction will begin in the coming days. Residents on the North Bank are now receiving a letter through their letterbox. It contains information about the completion of the works on this final phase.
Finishing of the North Shore area
Work on the finishing touches to the North Quay area is largely complete, but the final phase is the reconstruction of the North Wall. The next stage is to build a rock breakwater on top and prepare for the concreting that will raise the wall itself. The final task will be to finish the surface and ensure public access to the wall.
Three-part implementation
Construction work on the garden's reconstruction will begin in the coming days. It will last for several weeks. Gravel will be added to the existing fill outside the garden. A large digger will be used and material will be collected for a gravel fill above the garden.
Traffic will be restricted to this section of the footpath during working hours. Materials will be transported to the bank alongside North Bank 19-25. Every effort will be made to limit material transport and to maintain the highest safety standards during traffic and construction.
The plan is to pave the garden this coming summer. During the paving works, access to the path will need to be restricted. Dates will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
Work to finish the wooden deck on the garden's surface will take place this coming autumn. These will also be presented in more detail closer to the time. There will be no need to restrict access to the footpath, except when materials are being delivered to the site. Great care will be taken to maintain the area, and any waste will be cleared away promptly.
We thank residents for their understanding during the works.
