The staff of the Centre for Work and Activity are always ready
It was a big day at Centre for Work and Activity Yesterday. Þórdís Rúriksdóttir, director of the Centre, says that although the day was a great success, more projects are always needed. She encourages companies and organisations to get in touch with them.
Jobs that matter
Yesterday was a big day for the Centre for Work and Activity. They went all over town, to all its institutions, with a Christmas hamper and their regards. There are nearly 80 municipal services, so it was a busy day's driving.
Encourages companies to use the service
Thordis Ruriksdottir, director of the Centre, says that although the day has been a great success, more projects are always needed for the Centre. „We encourage companies and institutions to make use of our staff. We offer a good service,“ she says, adding that the Centre has several irons in the fire.
„We're setting up an environmental watch for the environment and planning department. We go on a round around the town three times a week and clear up all the fly-tipping from the kerbside bins, taking it to the tip. It's always a car-load of rubbish that we pick up,“ she says.
„So we pack for the Fruit Truck twice a week and send our people to Netto, the DIY store and Hagkaup.“
Combined operations in a new building
The Centre for Work and Activity is brand new in Hafnarfjörður. The premises for the operation expanded by 75% this autumn. Four departments were then merged under the banner of the Centre. Around sixty people attend the activities.
Þórdís encourages companies in Hafnarfjörður, as well as others, to get in touch and use the service. All packaging jobs suit them perfectly, as do temporary gigs. „We accept anything.“
Thordis is now also looking to expand the business and buy a printer to print on clothing. „We also want to produce reusable Christmas bags and occasion bags to sell.“
Yes, there's a lot in the pipeline at the Centre. Don't hesitate to support them and give them the opportunity to do good work.
