Family, guests and passers-by are invited to an open house on the 1stOn 6th April, between 1 pm and 4 pm On the occasion of the opening Centres for Work and Activity, a new, combined work and activity resource for disabled people in Hafnarfjörður. This is an opportunity to learn about the diverse activities within the four departments of the Centre. Around fifty people use the service daily.
„I look forward to showing the work and the facilities, which we are very pleased with. Here, people aim to get a job and receive good vocational training, being placed according to their abilities and interests,“ says Brynja Sóley Stefánsdóttir., Senior coach and department manager at the Centre for Work and Activity. The Centre was re-established in a revised form last autumn. Its premises were then expanded by 75%.
„People often have such preconceived ideas about what working and being active with disabled people is like. Now they can see for themselves whether their opinion is correct and we can show them that here, we are all doing important work,“ she says proudly.
An open house will be held at both Selhælla 7, where Umhverfisvaktin is based, and Suðurgata 14, on the first floor where the Communication and Sensory Stimulation unit of the Centre is located, as well as on the second floor where the focus is on physical and social activity.
The Centre Choir will then close the day with a few good songs chosen by the choir members.“
This new centre promotes an improved quality of life, stronger community participation and equal opportunities to utilise one's talents and skills.
Please pop in and see the great work.
