The Hafnarfjörður Boarding Club has settled into a new and magnificent boarding hall at Selhæll 7 in Hafnarfjörður, and today officially opened a facility that is second to none in Europe. The facility is for riders of all ages on skateboards, scooters, BMX and mountain bikes. There has been extensive and good cooperation between the club and the City of Hafnarfjörður, which wishes to enhance the standing of these sports within the municipality.
„Not everyone finds themselves in team sports or these traditional sports disciplines that are available to children and young people all over town. The health-focused town of Hafnarfjörður has successfully supported these disciplines, and with the opening of this skatepark, we want to show in practice that extreme sports and the initiatives of clubs like the Hafnarfjörður Skateboard Club are of immense importance to a large group of young people.“ says Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, Mayor of Hafnarfjörður. “Hafnarfjörður is already reaping the rewards with champions on the scene, and I am certain that with this fantastic new facility, the sport of surfing will flourish like never before,“ says Rose.

One of the most spectacular skateboarding facilities in Europe
The Boarding Club, which was previously based in the old fire station in Flatahraun, now has an 800-square-metre area for its activities in a large and magnificent hall at a new location. In recent weeks and months, a dedicated team on behalf of the club has been working on the design and construction of the facility, with the help of international experts. A team from the United States and Denmark, with experience in building dozens of skateparks around the world, was brought to the country to oversee the project. The decision by the City of Hafnarfjörður to lease Selhællan 7 in Hafnarfjörður was made at the end of 2023, and things have moved quickly since then. The skatepark will house training sessions and competitions for snowboarding, skateboarding, and the BMX cycling divisions of the Skateboarding Association, among other things. The move to the new premises marks a milestone and a revolution in facilities for the Hafnarfjörður Skateboard Club, a 400-member club, and for the town's residents who practise these sports.
Hafnarfjörður Municipality congratulates the Hafnarfjörður Boarding Club on its new facility and looks forward to continuing our collaboration!
