Ways for the children to learn the curriculum

Well over a hundred parents attended a lecture by Jóhanna Birna Bjartmarsdóttir, where she went over how to use technology to simplify their studies. Indeed, the Bæjarbíó was packed.

The apps Málfríður, Memrise, Rasmus, Notion and Brainrot were featured, and parents were moved by the story of Jóhanna Birna and how she managed to get into the University of Florida in the United States without first attending sixth form at home.

The senior pupils learn about the programmes

Jóhanna has now visited most of the primary schools in Hafnarfjörður since mid-February. She has given the children an inspiring lecture about technological solutions they can use to make their studies easier. She has also met with teachers.

Jóhanna described to the parents the indirect obstacles that the children face at school. She spoke to them just as she would to the children about the Icelandic school system and said how important she felt it was to see the school, not the pupil, as the problem when it came to learning difficulties. It was important to adapt the teaching to each individual's ability.

Lots of messages on a brilliant evening

„I thought it was a wonderful evening,“ says Jóhanna Birna. „I've had lots of messages and I'm incredibly happy, with a warm feeling in my heart. Seventy people also filled in the questionnaire at the end of the lecture. Everyone with children in Hafnarfjörður says that the advice has been incredibly useful to them.“

It was great to find that the different tools seemed to suit some people in the room. She was also pleased to see people coming from far and wide, including from Selfoss and beyond. She has now received enquiries from several other municipalities.

Want to introduce to more people

Jóhanna is now aiming to graduate from her master's degree at the University of Florida. She is also looking forward to several conferences she has booked. She hopes that the Icelandic education system will now seize the opportunity and work systematically to implement the technological solutions as aids for children in the country's schools.
