Kristrún Sigurjónsdóttir is a creative cook and practises her meditation through baking and cooking, which her friends and relatives enjoy. She is studying for a master's degree in multiculturalism, multiculturalism, global connections and migration, and works as an educational consultant for the City of Hafnarfjörður, where she provides advisory services on multicultural matters in close collaboration with the municipality's nursery and primary schools and other stakeholders. Kristrún is a true Hafnarfjörður native (though not born there) and wouldn't live anywhere else. She spent her teenage years typing out idioms and proverbs and pondering their origins and history, as her interest in the Icelandic language was great from a very young age.

Passionate about equality, human rights and social justice

Kristrún is a great idealist who has always considered it important to live in accordance with and work towards her ideals, and she is passionate about equality, human rights and social justice. She taught at Lækjarskóli for 20 years and was involved in the development and establishment of a reception department for students of foreign origin. Through her work, she has witnessed the significant growth in the number of international students within the Hafnarfjörður school community and has actively participated in developing new methods, solutions and programmes for this group of students to ensure their needs are met. In the chat, Kristrún tells us how her interest in multiculturalism was sparked and how she herself began to read up and find ways to better welcome the growing number of foreign children and young people. With the increase in numbers, the resource has moved from being a reception unit in one school to a system where all schools can safely welcome new international students. One of the major development projects currently underway for the City of Hafnarfjörður is the implementation of a placement assessment for new students of foreign origin, and Kristrún is managing the implementation on behalf of the municipality.
