On 2nd October, the 62nd annual FRÍ congress was held at Kaplakriki in Hafnarfjörður, in close cooperation with the FH athletics department and the City of Hafnarfjörður. The congress was unusual in many ways. It had been postponed twice before, but was now held in the shadow of Covid-19, with health and safety measures being strictly observed. A precedent was set with a live stream from the congress, as well as the annual congress lasting only one day, not two, as has traditionally been the case.
Distinguished guests addressed the parliament
Freyr Ólafsson, Chairman of FRÍ, welcomed guests at 17:00 and opened the assembly. The Assembly Chairs were elected Gunnlaugur Júlíusson and Gunnar Svavarsson, who stepped in for Björg Ágústsdóttir. The scribes were elected: Aðalbjörg Hafsteinsdóttir and Eiríkur Mörk Valsson.
Distinguished guests addressed the assembly, including Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Education and Culture; Ágúst Bjarni Garðarsson, Chairman of the Hafnarfjörður Town Council; Hafsteinn Pálsson, Second Vice-President of the Icelandic Sports Federation; and Úlfar Linnet, Chairman of the FH Athletics Department.

New board elected
At the congress, 25 proposals for amendments to the regulations and statutes were approved. Due to the format of the congress, many were referred to the board or working committees. The congress elected a new board and committee chairs for the association. New to the main board is Aðalbjörg Hafsteinsdóttir, while Guðlaug Baldvinsdóttir, Gunnar Svavarsson and Kári Steinn Karlsson continue to serve. The association's chairman, Freyr Ólafsson, was re-elected for the next two years. The congress also saw the introduction of a new logo and a modernised image for the new era.
