Pupils from Year 5 at Ásland School are taking part in the CHILDREN HELP CHILDREN 2017 appeal, the annual fundraising campaign by ABC Children's Aid in partnership with the country's primary schools. The President of Iceland, H.E. Gudni Th. Jóhannesson, officially launched the appeal at the school today. The project is directly linked to the cornerstones of Áslandskóli and is designed to foster understanding and respect for the global community.
The collection runs from 16th March to 9th April, and the school's children will be going door-to-door in their neighbourhoods, collecting donations in special collection books. The children will be wearing an ABC-branded “buff” headband and carrying a letter of authorisation for their participation. This is the 20th year that this primary school fundraiser has taken place, and it is a very important source of funding for ABC Children's Aid. Thanks to the proceeds from these collections over the years, the construction of numerous schools and homes for impoverished children in developing countries has been funded. The work is about giving poor children the opportunity for an education and helping street children to a new life by providing them with a home and an education. ABC Children's Aid provides students from the age of 3 with a free education, school supplies, a school uniform, medical care and food.
The Children Helping Children project is directly linked to the cornerstones of Áslandsskóli, which focus on working with all virtues, fostering global understanding, promoting community service, and doing everything to an outstanding standard.
