Coda Terminal project cancelled in Hafnarfjörður

Carbfix has abandoned its plans to develop the Coda Terminal in Hafnarfjörður. This was stated in a statement from the company on Friday.

Mayor Valdimar Víðisson says it is clear that thousands of residents have been concerned about this project. Many uncertainties were associated with the project, and concerns were therefore natural.

Too many uncertainties

„The Planning Authority's opinion was presented a few weeks ago and many uncertainties remained. Many of the town councillors had begun to have doubts about the project, myself included, as has been reported in the town council and the media,“ he says. The doubts of residents and representatives, as well as the proposed charges, led to this decision.

Move the project to other parts of the country

This is confirmed in a statement from Carbfix regarding the Coda Terminal. It states that no consensus was reached between representatives of the City of Hafnarfjörður and Carbfix on the progress of the development.

„Carbfix has decided to shift the focus of its climate projects to domestic heavy industry, in line with partnership agreements with both Elkem at Grundartangi and Rio Tinto in Straumsvík, and to further develop potential projects in Þorlákshöfn and at Bakka near Húsavík,“ the statement reads.

„We take lessons from this project and move forward undeterred. Carbfix's goal remains to expand its operations and be part of the solution,“ says Edda Sif Pind Aradóttir, CEO of Carbfix., in the statement which was released on Friday.
