Here you can apply for temporary supply teaching work in primary or music schools, as we are regularly looking for staff for a wide variety of supply teaching roles.

It is often possible to accommodate requests for a specific working pattern, adjust working hours e.g. to fit around another job or studies, or offer part-time work. Hraunvallar School is looking to hire school and after-school staff for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Hraunvallar School is unique in that both a nursery and a primary school are run within its walls. Hraunvallaskóli is looking for a developmental therapist for the school's Multi-Disciplinary Department.

UA 80-100% position for the 2026-2027 academic year is being discussed, and the appointment is from 1 August 2026.

In the Multi-disciplinary Department are students who, on the basis of multiple needs, cannot fully utilise the learning opportunities available at their home school. The supervisor's office is located at Fléttuvelli on the grounds of Hraunvallar School and is staffed by four to five members of staff.

The applicant must have a positive attitude towards pupils with multiple needs and a belief in each individual's capacity for change and development, seeking to build on their strengths. The post-holder must also have good leadership skills, extensive knowledge of school practice, and an ambitious vision for the school. 

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • A varied approach to developmental therapy and the supervision of pupils in collaboration with teachers, support staff and parents.

Skarðshlíð Leisure School is a new four-unit school that meets modern standards for nursery education. The nursery is located at Hádegisskarði 1, just a 4-minute drive from the Reykjanesbraut via Kaldárselsveg.

The school's philosophical foundation is based on a Professional Learning Community, where everyone learns together and the emphasis is on active participation in developing a strong school programme. The nurseries of Hafnarfjörður have introduced improved working hours, based on a 36-hour working week for all staff. Staff in the Association of Early Years Educators and the Association of Occupational Therapists have opted for an arrangement whereby their academic year is comparable to that of primary school teachers. These staff members therefore take reduced working hours around Christmas and New Year, during the winter break in primary schools, in the week before Easter, and with longer periods off in the summer.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Works on and is responsible for the upbringing and education of nursery children in accordance with the duties of the department manager.
  • Responsible for the management, planning, implementation and evaluation of the department's professional work.
  • Manages the daily work of the department and is responsible for the communication of information within the department, between the nursery's departments, and between the head teacher and the department. 
  • Responsible for ensuring the school curriculum is followed and that all children receive teaching, care and/or special tuition as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring that parents/guardians are informed about the child's development and well-being, and the activities that take place on the unit.
  • Organises collaboration with the parents/guardians of the children on the unit, e.g. settling-in, daily communication and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.

 Educational and competency requirements:

  • Teacher's licence (Licence to accompany application)
  • Experience as a nursery manager is desirable.

The School of Medicine is looking for a driven and dynamic academic and career advisor. on supply, for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Lækjarskóli has a history dating back to 1877 and is situated in a beautiful, green environment by the stream in Hafnarfjörður. A new school building, bright and spacious, was constructed and opened in 2002. The school has, among other facilities, a swimming pool and a sports hall. There are approximately 450 pupils. All pupils from the 5th to the 10th grade are provided with their own tablet to use.

Hörðurvellir Nursery School is looking to hire a full-time Head of Department.,

Hörðuvellir is a four-unit nursery school with around 75 children aged approximately 18 months to 6 years. Hörðuvellir is in a beautiful, scenic location in the heart of the town. Surrounding the grounds are the stream and the lava field, with beautiful small streams, which are ideal for field trips and nature observation.

The nursery's motto is: PLAY-EXPERIENCE-KNOWLEDGE. Free play is the children's main way of learning; through it, they gain experience and their knowledge grows over the years. We are also involved in a joint initiative within Hafnarfjörður called “Reading is the game of life.“

The nurseries of Hafnarfjörður have introduced improved working hours, based on a 36-hour working week for all staff. Staff in the Association of Early Years Educators and the Association of Occupational Therapists have opted for an arrangement whereby their academic year is comparable to that of primary school teachers. These staff members therefore take reduced working hours around Christmas and New Year, during the winter break in primary schools, in the week before Easter, and with longer periods off in the summer. 

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Responsible for the management, planning, execution and evaluation of the work in the department.
  • Manages the daily work of the department and is responsible for communicating information within the department, between the nursery's departments, and between the head teacher and the department.
  • Ensures that every child in the department receives teaching, guidance, care and/or special tuition as required.
  • Organises collaboration with the parents/guardians of the children on the unit, e.g. settling-in, daily communication and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Responsible for ensuring parents/guardians are informed about the child's development and well-being, and about the activities taking place on the unit.
  • Other tasks as per the job description and as assigned by a superior.

Educational and competency requirements:

  • Teacher's licence (Licence to accompany application)

Youth Club Coordinator – Áslandsskóli – Ásinn

Áslandsskóli is looking to hire a Project Manager for an exciting role with children and young people at the Ásinn youth club, which is part of the school's leisure centre. The youth club offers children and teenagers in Years 5-10 a venue for a varied and enjoyable after-school activity programme.

The youth club Ásinn offers pupils in Years 5-10 a fun after-school activity programme on the school premises. The programme is run on the principles of youth democracy and with a preventative focus. 

The aim of the work is to give children and young people the opportunity to take part in creative and developmental social activities in a healthy environment on an equal basis, and to create a platform where they can build their self-confidence and social skills. The youth club coordinator is responsible for organising and shaping a varied programme in collaboration with children and young people, which takes into account their interests at any given time.

This concerns 50% job. Working hours are partly in the evenings on weekdays and partly during the day. Flexible working hours are available.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Planning the professional work of youth centres
  • To engage in prevention by being a positive role model, educating, discussing, and positively influencing children and young people on various issues related to their daily lives.

This is a part-time position involving providing support and assistance to pupils in Years 1–4 at the after-school club, Tröllaheimar.

Hafnarborg is the cultural and arts centre of Hafnarfjörður. A vibrant cultural programme takes place at Hafnarborg all year round, with a varied exhibition schedule, guided tours, events and lectures, in addition to which concerts are a regular feature of its activities.

Working hours are normally 11:30-17:30 on weekdays, with the possibility of overtime.

Key tasks: 

  • Reception and general information for visitors about the museum's exhibitions and events, as well as telephone duty. 
  • Security in exhibition halls and supervision of the safety of artworks and visitors 
  • Processing, settlement and management of the compilation of statistical information 
  • Supervision of daily operations, exhibition technology, and the maintenance of a tidy environment in the museum shop and exhibition halls. 
  • Supervision of the gift shop and guest studio 
  • Assistance with the preparation, set-up and takedown for various events at the museum.
