Christmas comes with Jóla Hólm

News Christmas Town

Sóli Hólm has never performed more often at the Bæjarbíó than this Christmas. A total of 41 performances, with the last one on St. Laurence's Day. It has been a busy time for Sóli, and he has a number of television series to his name.

Christmas in the City of Hafnarfjörður

„I sleep in the dressing room. It's all downstairs,“ says Sóli Hólm in the Christmas issue of the City of Hafnarfjörður's magazine. He says he is always charging up between shows and is like zombie at home to make sure they don't catch any virus.

Again and again, year after year? „Yes, but always a new programme, of course. It has to be that way,“ says Sóli, describing how he and Halldór Smárason put everything into the experience.

„I'm not just making jokes about Christmas year after year. That would quickly run dry,“ he says about how the years are approached. There's a different amount going on in society between years, which then just calls for more creativity. „It's a challenge I gladly accept. It gets the brain working. Besides, Jóli Hólm isn't exactly a chronicle. I just do what I find funny and fun,“ he says.

Sóli has a lot in the pipeline. He has written five television series since 2023 and says you can always write about cool characters. He's sure he has a good 20 years left in the scriptwriting business.

„We're waiting to hear if we're going to do another series of Brjáni, which was on Sýn. There won't be any more episodes of Iceguys, but perhaps a film,“ he says, grinning. He himself will be appearing less over the year than before.

„It's out of consideration for people. They have to be able to look forward to Christmas. You don't have ham hock every day, but it's great in moderation. I think it's the same with me,“ he says, laughing, and admits that it's a privileged position to be able to stand year after year at the Bæjarbíó in front of a full house.

„It's a special feeling when Halldór and I are finishing the tour, and I know that year's show will never be performed again. Then a sadness comes over me that it's all over, and I start to miss Halldór and our time together in December. We're like twins in the womb while the tour is on.“

Heart swelling 100% eco-friendly and 100% fun

A 200-square-metre ice rink awaits residents of Hafnarfjörður and visitors between the Hafnarfjörður Library on Strandgata and Barbara, opposite the Bæjarbíó, as in previous years.
The Heart Rink is 100% eco-friendly, as neither water nor electricity is used to freeze it. The rink is built on specially designed artificial ice plates that have the same properties as natural ice. Great fun, an experience and exercise for the whole family.

There is space for up to 30 people on the ice at a time. While one group is skating, those waiting can take part in a Hafnarfjörður treasure hunt, getting to know our town in a new and exciting way.

The Christmas heart behind Bæjarbíó

“The Christmas Heart, the marquee behind the Town Cinema, is the sister festival of the Heart of the Harbour," says Páll Eyjólfsson, operations manager of the Town Cinema.
„We encourage people to come and enjoy our company, and even have some Christmas lobster soup from Tilveran. We offer drinks for the adults.“
Nearly 60,000 people visited the Heart of Hafnarfjörður this summer. „The Christmas Heart is the little sister of the summer heart. The same good atmosphere,“ says Palli.
„It's nice to pause and warm up after being in the Christmas Village in the living room. Then you can jump back into the village and carry on enjoying yourself. The Christmas Heart is a pleasant stopping-off point between the Christmas Village and Hellisgerði.“
• Open from 5 pm to 10 pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
