An educational day to enhance professionalism
The City of Hafnarfjörður's education policy was presented at a staff day for all staff of the City of Hafnarfjörður's leisure, primary and nursery schools on 14 November. The implementation of the policy has already begun. It ensures that everyone is in step with the school's work. In addition to the education policy, special attention was paid to:
- Successful implementations
- artificial intelligence perspective
- inclusive teaching environment
- children with multiple challenges
- Well-being in school life
The workday was well utilised, and participants could choose the training that suited them best. The aim of the day is to enhance professionalism in the workplace.
The City of Hafnarfjörður is fortunate to have a sea of professionals who organised the workshops and training. The primary and nursery school workshops were held before lunch, while staff from the leisure centres met in the afternoon at Áslandsskóli. Professional development days like these are important for strengthening professional practice in nurseries, primary and secondary schools, and leisure activities, allowing staff to learn and connect.
Among other things, the discussion covered the protection of children from sexual abuse, its manifestations, prevalence, and the impact of sexual abuse on children. Participants were introduced to simple ways to educate children and also had the opportunity to go through real-life examples and have a discussion about appropriate responses.
The discussion focused on the strategy and implementation of artificial intelligence in Hafnarfjörður's nursery and primary schools. Various issues were addressed, along with a discussion of artificial intelligence in a broader context – how it is evolving, changing the roles of teachers and pupils, and can become a genuine partner in the education of the future. The principles of non-selective and inclusive schooling were reviewed.
The day was a great success, informative and provided the staff with good tools for their daily work.
