News

Young publisher and writer Smári Hannesson is working on an exciting novel this year as part of the Creative Summer Jobs scheme. The story contains suffocating conflict throughout, but is primarily about the sins of the fathers, trauma passed through the blood from one generation to the next, and corruption.

„My name is Smári Hannesson and my Creative Summer Job is to write a novel!

Published his first book at only 14 years old

„Ever since I was a sweet little lad, I have had a tremendous passion for writing. I wrote short stories and poems with great enthusiasm and before I knew it, my first book was published, The uncle who does gymnastics. But the book I'm working on now isn't about the grandmother, nor is it a sequel to the first book.“

„The thriller Fires It's aptly named, but in it, important houses are burnt to the ground, fires rage in the main character's life which she is constantly trying to extinguish, and of course, two important characters are named Eldar. You could say I'm passionate about this story!“

About Creative Summer Jobs 2025

In the summer of 2021, the City of Hafnarfjörður, in collaboration with the city's youth centre, Hamarinn, decided to revive the “Creative Summer Jobs” project, which had been run in the summer of 2017. Individuals and groups aged 18-25 were also invited to submit ideas for creative projects in Hafnarfjörður. Selected groups were given the opportunity to work on various creative projects in different artistic fields that would also liven up the town's social life, delighting tourists and residents in one way or another. The staff of the Creative Summer Jobs, run as part of the Hafnarfjörður Work Camp, are tasked with bringing the town to life, making it more fun, beautiful and diverse with artistic and creative events. The projects are varied and appeal to different age groups and interests. Þorbjörg Signý Ágústsson is the project manager for Creative Summer Jobs.

This year, there are nine diverse projects operating as part of the Creative Summer Jobs scheme, and they will be featured weekly over the summer.
