Well-attended press conference

There was a large turnout at an information meeting at the Bæjarbíó on Monday, 7th October, regarding the amendment to the master plan for the Coda Terminal project, on which comments can be submitted until 10th October.

Silja Tryggvadóttir, the planner from Efla, went over the general plan amendment that has been put forward for approval. After the presentation, elected representatives took questions, and representatives from Carbfix and EFLU were also on hand to answer questions. The town councillors Orri Björnsson and Valdimar Víðisson, chairman of the working group on the project, Silja Tryggvadóttir and Ragnhildur Gunnarsdóttir from Efla, as well as Sigurður Haraldsson, Director of the Environmental and Planning Department. The meeting was chaired by Gunnar Dofri Ólafsson.

The first question was whether there would be referendums on the matter. Both Orri and Valdimar answered in the affirmative. The project would go to a referendum once all the information was available and the financial benefit for the people of Hafnarfjörður was clear. Orri said a working group had been working for two years but no agreements had been reached. Many questions remained unanswered and the financial aspect of the matter had not been finalised. He said that a deal between the town and Carbfix, which was unclear at this point, would be the final say for the town's residents in a referendum.

The entire meeting can be watched on Hafnarfjörður's Facebook page. Comments can be made on the plan presented at the meeting via Planning Authority's planning portal until 10th October.
