The 8th of November each year is dedicated to the fight against bullying in schools.. On this day, positive communication is prioritised and the school community is encouraged to unite against bullying. The schools in Hafnarfjörður have taken an active part in the project for several years with acts of kindness and friendship weeks. A common feature of the primary schools' friendship weeks is that the schools have dedicated the week to friendship and empathy, and the school's activities are tailored to projects that call for cooperation and collaboration among all age groups. Students and staff are encouraged to wear green.

Communicating good values, regular education and discussion about bullying and its consequences.

In many schools, Friendship Week has been taking place all week, along with friendship games and multiple intelligences activities that break up the usual school routine. A variety of stations are set up around the schools where the talents of every pupil and teacher can be enjoyed, and all ages work together. The older pupils look after the youngest in their group, guiding them and showing them respect, care and affection. Bullying has various consequences for both the pupils who experience it and their families. It is worth remembering that the perpetrators are often children who have themselves suffered bullying and feel powerless. Often, it is the silent majority who allow bullying to continue, but fewer people show responsibility and intervene. Instilling good values, regular education, and discussions about bullying and its consequences are essential. A powerful preventative measure against bullying is to provide children with structured training in how to work and play together, guided by democracy, human rights and equality. This skill is part of creating a more positive environment where bullying is less likely to take root.

A positive school atmosphere is crucial for well-being and job satisfaction.

The aim of the National Centre for Education is for Anti-Bullying Day to provide schools with an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of positive relationships and to send out a message that negative behaviour and bullying will not be tolerated. The day encourages everyone to contribute to mutual respect, empathy and positive relationships in schools. A positive school climate is crucial for the well-being and motivation of pupils and staff, and can have the same effect as the best preventative measures. The City of Hafnarfjörður and Home and School – National Association parents work closely and well together on the journey to promote and further strengthen the strong parental, preventative and educational work in the municipality, among other things through targeted education and advice from the specialists of Home-School Partnership.
