Praise for the equality plan!

The results of the 2024 review of the City of Hafnarfjörður's equal pay system show continued positive development. The unexplained gender pay gap is now measured at 0.61%, in favour of women. The result is in line with the targets that the City of Hafnarfjörður has set for itself. The city therefore passed the test with flying colours.

The equal pay system is efficient.

Hafnarfjörður was the first municipality in Iceland to receive equal pay certification, receiving the certified equal pay logo from the Ministry of Welfare in August 2017. Since then, great ambition has been invested in the City of Hafnarfjörður's equal pay system and its continuous development. The system is considered effective. We are proud of this. The main objective of the equal pay certification is to combat gender-based pay gaps and promote gender equality in the labour market.

In total, the council employs approximately 2,100 staff, of whom 1,640 are women and 465 are men. The audit was conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Swedish Standard ST 85:2012 for equal pay systems. No serious deviations or other issues were found during the audit. The variance was measured at less than 11% (a 0.6% advantage in favour of women), and the R2 value increased year-on-year to 96.51%, which is considered a very good result.

The aim is to maintain pay equality at the council.

The result was in line with the objectives that the City of Hafnarfjörður has set for itself. The aim of implementing and developing an equal pay system is to establish and maintain pay equality within the City of Hafnarfjörður and to fulfil the employer's obligations to ensure equal rights, pay equal wages, and guarantee that all genders enjoy the same terms and conditions for the same or equally valued work.
