The Culture and Tourism Committee of Hafnarfjörður today awarded grants from the second round of cultural grants for 2019. Fifteen projects received a grant on this occasion; individuals, cultural groups or organisations, all of which have one thing in common: they are connected to Hafnarfjörður in one way or another. Cultural and Tourism Committee grants from the City of Hafnarfjörður are awarded twice a year for cultural projects that are likely to further enrich and deepen the city's arts scene.

Three-year partnership agreement

The total amount of grants in this allocation is kr.- 4,919,979. In total, nearly 11 million króna has now been allocated in grants for cultural purposes this year.

Last year saw a welcome change to the scheme when the total funding was increased, which has resulted in more projects receiving grants, and applications were also opened for longer-term partnership agreements. One project received such a contract this time, with Bæjarbíó being awarded a three-year contract for the music and town festival, Hjarta Hafnarfjarðar. Earlier this year, two other projects were awarded such a contract: the Hafnarborg Song Festival and the Hafnarfjörður Pipe Band for concert performances.

The allocation of grants by the City of Hafnarfjörður is based on an assessment of applications. Cultural events, artists, associations or institutions applying for a grant must be connected to Hafnarfjörður in some way. Examples include permanent residency, an event/project taking place in Hafnarfjörður, and/or a project involving the promotion of Hafnarfjörður's cultural activities.

Applications for the first 2020 cultural grants will be invited in January.

Hafnarfjörður warmly congratulates all the grant recipients!
