Fifteen youth workers attended a workshop in Hafnarfjörður
Fifteen youth workers from Vienna spent a working week here in Hafnarfjörður. They learned about and shared their knowledge and experience of youth work. The visit was very well received, and now the staff from Hafnarfjörður are planning a trip to Austria.
International cooperation in youth work
The youth centre Aldan and WienXtra received a grant from Erasmus+ to learn from and share knowledge and experience with each other. Fifteen youth workers from Vienna came for a field visit from 3-7 February. They looked at how Icelandic after-school clubs, youth clubs and other youth work promote the inclusion of children with disabilities. Also how their opportunities to participate in open leisure activities are increased. They were also introduced to the Icelandic prevention model and how the prevention model is reflected in work with young people.
Red Alert and Primary School Fair
The visit was very well received, and the hosts were grateful to everyone who welcomed the group. They had an authentic Icelandic experience with a red weather warning. Visits and events had to be postponed and rescheduled due to the weather, which they found exciting. The group ended their visit by attending the Primary School Festival a day later than planned and spoke highly of the flexibility of the staff and the artists who performed at the festival.
At the end of March, a 15-person group from Öldan, The Lighthouse and The Settlement, along with the Manager of Leisure Activities and Prevention, will travel to Vienna to learn about the inclusion of young people from diverse cultural backgrounds in youth work, and about the violence prevention work carried out in the youth clubs there.
Yes, international cooperation provides ideas and a greater perspective.
