Hafnarfjörður wants full control over St. Joseph's Hospital
The town council unanimously agreed to instruct the mayor to enter into negotiations with the government with the aim of the town gaining full control over the premises of St Joseph's Hospital.
At a town council meeting currently underway, the affairs of St Joseph's Hospital were discussed. The town council unanimously agreed to instruct the mayor to enter into talks with the government with the aim of the town gaining full control over the St Joseph's Hospital premises.
State Estates advertised the properties at 41 and 44 Suðurgata for sale. No satisfactory offers were received for the properties.
Today, St. Joseph's Hospital in Hafnarfjörður is one-sixth owned by the town, alongside state ownership.
Ways will be sought to resume operations in the building.
„The local authorities have explored various ways to restart some form of activity at St Joseph's Hospital, but have been unsuccessful. At this point, the town council's assessment is that it is right to seek full control over these properties, and therefore the council has instructed me to begin negotiations with the government. Should the town gain control of the properties, a working group will be established to address their future use and the next steps,„ says Haraldur L. Haraldsson, the Mayor.
The coalition agreement of the current majority on the Hafnarfjörður Town Council states that ways will be sought to resume operations at St. Joseph's Hospital in collaboration with stakeholders.
