Hafnarborg's Autumn Exhibition 2017

The final selection of proposals for the autumn exhibition at Hafnarborg for 2017 has now been made, and the proposal by Jóhannes Dagson, a philosopher and lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, was chosen. The exhibition proposal, which bears the working title Painting – something other than a medium. 

The final selection of proposals for the autumn exhibition at Hafnarborg for 2017 has now been made, and it was a proposal Johannes Dagsson's, a philosopher and lecturer at the Department of Fine Art at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, who was selected. The exhibition proposal, which bears the working title Painting – something other than a medium discusses painting as an approach to visual representation, irrespective of the medium, and the aim of the exhibition is to provide an insight into this development of painting and its new status.

Johannes Dagsson He works as a lecturer in theory at the Department of Fine Art at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, having previously served as an adjunct lecturer at the department since 2013. Alongside his work at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, Jóhannes has worked for the Institute of Ethics at the University of Iceland on the NERRI project and has been an editor. Thoughts, a journal of philosophy. Jóhannes worked as a teaching assistant at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Calgary, Canada, and the University of Iceland from 2008 to 2011. He has also written numerous exhibition texts and given lectures on topics related to the philosophy of art, language philosophy and mind philosophy. Jóhannes completed his PhD in Philosophy at the University of Calgary, Canada, in 2012. He previously studied philosophy and literature at the University of Iceland, where he completed a Master's degree in Philosophy in 2009. Jóhannes is trained in fine art from Edinburgh College of Art and has participated in exhibitions at home and abroad.

Last autumn, introduced Port city For the seventh time, a project which aimed to give curators the opportunity to submit a proposal for the autumn exhibition at Hafnarborg in 2016. The authors of the proposals received have diverse educational and professional backgrounds related to visual art and cultural projects. The applications are reviewed and the winning proposal is selected each year by the Art Council of Hafnarborg, together with the director.
