An agreement has been signed with the Hafnarfjörður Angling Club regarding fishing and fish stocking in Kleifarvatn. The six-year agreement grants exclusive rights to fishing and fish stocking in the lake.

The agreement with the Hafnarfjörður Angling Club regarding fishing and fish farming in Kleifarvatn has been renewed. The agreement, which is now for six years, continues to include an exclusive right to fishing and fish stocking in the lake. The Angling Club is permitted to sell fishing licences for Kleifarvatn to its members and others.

The Hafnarfjörður Angling Club is a club with a long tradition, having been founded around fishing in Hlíðarvatn in December 1951. Soon after, fish farming also began in Kleifarvatn and later in Djúpavatn. The club has around 280 active members and maintains a busy winter programme, meeting once a week from the beginning of January until the end of April. During this period, the club runs casting and fly-tying courses in collaboration with the Hafnarfjörður Adult Education Centre and the Reykjavík Casting Club. There is an open house every Thursday evening, and once or twice a month, guests give a lecture and provide education on hunting-related topics. Everyone is welcome at the open evenings. The society has also run a youth programme for children and teenagers aged 11–16 for several years. The youngsters meet 8-10 times, learning how to tie knots and flies, watching fishing videos, going over their equipment, and then finishing with a fishing trip that includes an overnight stay. This programme is free of charge for the youngsters.

The association emphasises offering its members family-friendly shooting grounds at an affordable price, and encourages shooters to look after the grounds and respect the game.

See the society's website for more details.
