Improved working conditions that reduce stress

Hafnarfjörður has, over the past few weeks and months, been working with the findings of a report prepared this winter on working conditions in the town's nurseries.

For the past few weeks and months, the City of Hafnarfjörður has been working with the findings of a report, prepared over the winter, on the working conditions in the city's nurseries.  In line with its findings, the City of Hafnarfjörður has been working on improving the working environment and facilities for both the children and staff of the nurseries. The main aim of these improvements is to reduce the workload on the children and the school staff.

Increase in preparation time and overtime hours for nursery school staff

This year's budget approves an increase of one hour in preparation and overtime for staff, for both qualified and unqualified personnel. This was a welcome increase, as it provides greater flexibility to meet the many tasks the nursery faces on a daily basis.

Additional funding was allocated to each and every nursery school to further alleviate the pressure caused by staffing shortages, and to strengthen their internal operations.

Improvements immediately tangible this autumn

From enrolment this August, the steps are important measures to increase space, with the aim that fewer children will be in groups than the number for which a play area is designated. Previously, however, almost all of the nursery's spaces were counted as play areas, even though children never actually used them.

In preparation since the New Year

Last December, a working group was established with the aim of looking into improved working conditions in nurseries, and many good proposals were put forward. The working group's report was laid before the Education Committee today, and the Education Manager was tasked with taking forward the recommendations and drawing up an action plan in consultation with the Education Committee, with the aim of further improving the working environment for children and staff and reducing the workload in nurseries.on.

Child-friendly community

Discussions regarding the vision and childcare provision for children, the shortening of the working week, and anything that aims to and can contribute to a child-friendly society, and the municipality's participation in promoting positive development in these areas, are and will be the guiding principle in the town's policymaking.
