Job satisfaction increases in Hafnarfjörður
Overall employee job satisfaction in the City of Hafnarfjörður has increased year-on-year. Satisfaction is measured above the national average of the Icelandic Employee Satisfaction Index. The research firm Prósent carried out the survey.

The overall job satisfaction of employees of Hafnarfjörður municipality increases year-on-year. Satisfaction is measured above the national average of the Icelandic Job Satisfaction Index. The City of Hafnarfjörður scores above the Icelandic Employee Satisfaction Index in the majority of the measured factors in the workplace analysis, or in 7 out of 10 categories. In two categories, the score is at the average, and only one category scores slightly below.
„It is extremely pleasing to see this steady positive development over several years. It shows that when staff are listened to and targeted improvements are made to the working environment and management, it results in increased job satisfaction and improved well-being,“ says Lind Einarsdóttir, Human Resources Manager for the City of Hafnarfjörður.
Of the ten measured factors, the score increases in five categories year-on-year and remains unchanged in four. „It is particularly pleasing to see a significant increase in the assessment of management, where the evaluation of senior executives has risen, as well as a significant year-on-year increase in the assessment of salaries and remuneration,“ says Lind.
A steady positive trend is evident when looking at the last three years. Most key workplace factors, such as job satisfaction, trust, management, and staff's perception of their working conditions, have been on the rise since 2023. „The results show that the council's improvement work is not random but part of a continuous journey where results are systematically worked on and followed up with action,“ she says.
The findings will be used as a guide for the project going forward. Well-being at work, an 18-month journey towards improved health and wellbeing. They will be presented to managers and staff, the findings will be worked on in more detail at individual workplaces, and action plans will be developed in consultation with staff. The aim is to continue on this positive journey and create workplaces where professionalism, trust and well-being are prioritised.
The survey was conducted in February 2026 and had a 69% response rate, providing a reliable picture of the staff's experience of the council's workplaces. The research firm Prósent conducted the survey and ensured 100% confidentiality for participants.
