On Sunday 12 April at 2 pm, visitors to Hafnarborg will have the opportunity to learn about the interesting career of the artist Jónína Guðnadóttir (b. 1943).

On Sunday, 12th April at 2 pm, visitors to Hafnarborg will have the opportunity to learn about the interesting career of the artist Jónína Guðnadóttir (b. 1943). Jónína has lived and worked in Hafnarfjörður for almost four decades and has run a studio there where she has created both functional objects and works of art.

Images of works from throughout the artist's career will be shown, and Pétrún Pétursdóttir and Ólöf K. Sigurðardóttir will speak with the artist about her career and the ideas behind the works.

Jónina's career began in the mid-1960s, after she had studied at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and at Konstfack in Stockholm. Jónína's background is in ceramics, and for many years she has been at the forefront of Icelandic ceramics, while also being a powerful pioneer in breaking with the utilitarian tradition to use clay as the material for independent works of art.

The exhibition of Jónína's works, entitled Guardian. In her work, the artist looks back to her childhood and formative years in the mid-20th century. She gives form to her ideas in sculptures and wall works, combining diverse materials such as concrete, glass and clay.
