Mayor visits more businesses in the town
Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir recently visited and familiarised herself with the operations of three companies based in Hafnarfjörður. Rósa has been travelling widely and aims to meet a diverse range of companies across all sectors of the business community to hear about their challenges and opportunities.
Opportunities and challenges for Hafnarfjörður businesses
A sunny morning greeted Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir when she visited the first businesses on her tour of the municipality this autumn. The aim is to meet as many and as diverse businesses as possible in all sectors of Hafnarfjörður's business life.
Representatives of the Packaging Factory, the Fibre and Module Factory welcomed her on an informal visit and showed her around their operations. These are different companies which, however, share a manufacturing process. They therefore joined the group of companies that the mayor has already met.
„I think it's important to hear for myself what challenges businesses in Hafnarfjörður face and how we can best support them with good regulation and frameworks here in Hafnarfjörður,“ says Rósa.
„Such short and snappy conversations not only give me this insight but also provide the local businesses with an opportunity to get their message across. It's very interesting to learn about the operations of diverse companies first-hand, as the town's business community is exceptionally thriving,“ she says.
Visited various production companies
The packaging plant is engaged in large-scale cardboard production, Fibres in boat building and the sale of hot pots, and the prefabrication plant specialises in precast units for thirty years.
Most Hafnarfjörður residents are familiar with Trefja, as the company has been operating in the town for decades. It moved to Óseyrarbraut in 2008 and has been manufacturing its own boats since 1982. The company has many years of experience in the plastics industry and specialises in all aspects of fibreglass and other plastics.
Einingaverksmiðjan is a thirty-year-old company that was formerly based at Höfði in Reykjavík but has now settled at Koparhælla in Hellnahraun, Vellir, Hafnarfjörður. It casts foundations, walls, floor slabs, staircases, balconies and much, much more.
The packaging company is owned by the couple Sigrún Edda Eðvarðsdóttir and Eyþór Páll Hauksson. Founded in 2014, it initially imported packaging but four years ago decided to invest in equipment and start its own production. The company is located on Reykjavikurvegur and manufactures packaging for businesses in the quantities they require.
MultibrSpending on jobs for more opportunities
There are good conditions for businesses to grow and develop in Hafnarfjörður. Many have indeed established and moved their operations to the municipality in recent months and years, just like Einingaverksmiðjan and Umbúðagerðin.
New industrial plots in Hellnahraun are selling fast, and the municipality is busily planning neighbourhoods and areas for diverse activities. New ideas, development and the strengthening of a diverse economy contribute to a vibrant community and increased employment opportunities. The aim of the mayor's business visits is to get a feel for the state of business in Hafnarfjörður through brief chats and by experiencing the companies' operations.
A flourishing business sector in the town's strategy for 2035
The Hafnarfjörður Town Council approved in April 2022 Hafnarfjörður's comprehensive strategy for 2035. A vision, core objectives and strategic priorities for Hafnarfjörður are mapped out across all areas of the municipality.
The overall strategy is built around nine main objectives linked to the United Nations' Global Goals. Each of these is intended to promote and foster long-term improvements and positive changes. One of these goals is a flourishing economy.
