Öltutúnsskóli's anti-bullying team is exemplary!

Öldutúnsskóli receives the Home and School Parent Award 2024. The award was presented for the 29th time at a ceremony in the Safnahúsið on Hverfisgata on Wednesday. The organisation also awarded Brekkuskóli in Akureyri.

Öldutúnsskólinn received the award for its anti-bullying team, which invites parents to a well-being meeting. Parents from each class meet at these meetings along with the class teacher and a representative from the anti-bullying team. At these meetings, parents discuss their children's well-being, their social situation, the rules in place at home, the connection between home and school, and more.  Guðrún Helga Kristjánsdóttir, Helga Kristín Halldórsdóttir, Margrét Sverrisdóttir and Þóra Jónsdóttir were the representatives of the school's anti-bullying team at the award ceremony.

The headteacher is proud of his people

Valdimar Víðisson, headteacher at Öldutúnsskóli, is extremely proud of the staff, parents and pupils at the school. They have been holding these wellbeing meetings for several years now. „These meetings are usually held at the end of October and November,“ he describes on his Facebook page. „Parents sit in a circle, just as the pupils do in class meetings. Then they go around the circle and parents discuss their children's well-being, their social standing, the atmosphere in the class, the connection between home and school, and so on.“ He says the meetings are extremely effective.

„They bring parents closer together and also strengthen their connection with the school. Parental participation is generally very good, as these are meetings parents don't want to miss. The tone among parents at Öldutúnsskóli has also shifted to the point where they ask for extra pastoral meetings if they feel it's necessary,“ says Valdimar.

Home and school say it is important to point out what is done well.

Home-School say the projects at Öldutúns- and Brekkuskóli promote good and close cooperation between homes and schools, are in keeping with the Home-School Welfare Charter, and precisely align with what Home-School stands for. The projects have in common that they invite parents to collaborate. The organisation also selected the Home-School Diligence Awards. The award went to the couple An Katrien Patricia M. Lecluyse and Leopold Juliaan V. Broers. „The couple has done a fantastic job of strengthening parent-school relationships at their children's nursery and is doing important work in making the Home-School partnership as good as it can be. They have extended a helping hand to foreign parents at the nursery and are always ready to assist, provide information and support, as well as building relationships with both children and parents.„

The minister presented the awards.

Home and School accepted nominations from the public, but as is customary, a special judging panel reviewed all the nominations and selected the award winners. Ásmundur Einar Daðason, the Minister of Education and Children's Affairs, addressed the gathering and presented the awards on this occasion. „Heimili og skóli warmly congratulate the winners and nominees and thank them for their work for the school community. It is important to highlight what is being done well in the school community, but the aim of the Heimilis og Skóla Parenting Awards is to draw attention to the vibrant work that takes place within play, primary and secondary schools in Iceland, and the many projects that contribute to a strong and positive partnership between homes, schools and the community. and secondary schools in Iceland and the many projects that promote a strong and positive partnership between home, school and the community. The Parent Awards are a reminder of what can be achieved through collective effort,“ the organisation's statement reads.

Hafnarfjörður is proud of its school and supports the Home-School partnership. Yes, heartfelt congratulations!
