Over 4,000 attended Home and the Universe
Over 4,000 guests attended the fancy dress and games event Heimar and Himingeimar in Hafnarfjörður at the weekend. The event was hosted by the town's library, which had expected around a thousand guests.
Heaven and the Heavens, a festival that was a huge success!
„It was crazy,“ says Unnur Helga Möller, events manager at Hafnarfjörður Library. „Everyone was so happy. It went so incredibly well. The library was packed from opening until closing,“ she says of the large number of visitors who attended the fancy dress and games event Heimar and Himingeimar in Hafnarfjörður at the weekend. Over 4,000 visitors turned up. The town's library organised the event and had expected around a thousand visitors.
The event lasted for three days. There was plenty to see and do, with workshops to take part in, the chance to make LARP swords and costumes, and a competition for the best cosplay. The aim was to showcase the fantastic world of different costume communities. Unnur says that large groups find a second life in their costumes, as they step out of reality and into a world shaped by their imagination.
An important festival that opens doors
„The atmosphere was so amazing all weekend,“ she says. Asked what stood out, she says the Star Wars spaceship was unique and 501standard time The unit always attracts a lot of attention. The larpers surprised many with their adventure pub and games, and then on Sunday, the DeLorean sports car, better known as the time machine from the Back To The Future films, was a big hit.
Unnur Helga says a festival like this is important. „It has opened many people's eyes to what a major hobby fancy dress is. Everyone can find something to suit them within the fancy dress community. There is a joy there that everyone can enjoy. Everyone can have fun and be a part of it,“ she says, thanking the groups who organised the festival for their selfless work.
„The happiness and the sense of togetherness were so great. They came and made it happen. That was the best thing about the festival.“
