Award for reading at Öldutúnsskóli
Year 8 pupils received special recognition from the school after pupils in the year group contributed the most to the school's 'ALL READ' reading project this autumn, and were rewarded with a waffle party.
The national competition ALLIR LESA was held in the autumn. Recently, a recognition ceremony took place at Öldutúnsskóli for the year group that made the most effort with the project, which was the school's Year 8. The recognition consisted of a waffle party at the school after some playtime.
At Öldutúnsskóli, as in other schools, the aim is to achieve academic success for students, including in reading. One measure of this is the recording of pupils' attitudes towards reading in primary schools, based on enjoyment of reading. This is done in the Skólapúllus measurements, which is a tool that measures uniformly for primary schools across the country, and all primary schools in Hafnarfjörður participate. In December 2013, the reading enjoyment of children in years 6–10 at Öldutúnsskóli measured 4.6, while the national average was 5.1 (5.0 is the standardisation of the average on a 0–10 scale). In December 2014, the reading enjoyment score for pupils in years 6–10 at the school was 5.5, compared to a national average of 5.1. A clear sign of progress.
