Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the new mayor

Rósa is well-known in local politics in Hafnarfjörður; she took her seat on the town council twelve years ago, in 2006, and during the last term was chair of the town board and the education board.  

Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir took office as mayor of Hafnarfjörður last Thursday and has spent the past few days familiarising herself with the role, visiting the town's largest workplaces and meeting her colleagues. Rósa is well acquainted with the affairs of Hafnarfjörður; she took her seat on the town council twelve years ago, in 2006, and during the last term was chair of the town board and the education board.  

This morning, she visited the managers and staff of the service centre on Norðurhæll. 

Rósa is a political scientist from the University of Iceland and worked for several years in journalism, for the most part as a reporter for the news desk at Stöðvar 2 and Bylgjan. Rósa has also been an active writer and editor at Bókafélagið. 

She was an alternate MP for the Independence Party from 2007 to 2009 and sat on the Althingi for several months. Rósa has taken an active part in the work of the sports movement and is on the professional board of the Children's Welfare Fund.

She was the executive director of the Children's Cancer Support Association from 2001 to 2006 and has been the chairman of the association's board for the past ten years.  

Rósa was brought up in the North Town in Hafnarfjörður and is a graduate of Flensborg School. She is married to Jónas Sigurgeirsson and they have four children.
