The Sippy Band is the theme of the Cruise in summer 2023.

The Skemmtiferðin is an initiative that Snorri Már Snorrason has been running since 2012, when he first cycled the Ring Road himself under the banner of the Skemmtiferðin. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of exercise for everyone, and especially for those who are battling any kind of illness. Snorri Már was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2004 and fights for his life through regular exercise. In this way, he tries to maximise his quality of life and encourages others to do the same in a simple and enjoyable way, for as long and as much as life allows. The Fun Ride has now launched a light-hearted and fun skipping challenge that everyone can take part in.

From music school to town hall to library

The tour was scheduled to travel around the country this year, visiting all the ski resorts, but due to a lack of snow, that balloon quickly burst. The organisers decided instead that the bungee band would be the theme for summer 2023 and are encouraging everyone across the country to get their bungee bands out and start bouncing. Hafnarfjörður Music School received a sipping challenge from Skemmtiferðin and took on a two-day sipping challenge through the corridors and halls of the music school. Eiríkur Stephensen, headteacher of the music school, then passed the sash on to the Human Resources Department of the City of Hafnarfjörður, which is located in the Hafnarfjörður Town Hall at Strandgata 6. In recent days, the sippuband has been seen throughout the corridors of the Town Hall, and today it was passed on to the staff at Hafnarfjörður Library. The City of Hafnarfjörður has been a healthy workplace since 2022 and a healthy community since 2015, and therefore welcomes the challenge.

It is important to have inner strength and willpower.

The skipping challenge is simple and the game is quite light-hearted. It begins when the skipping rope is received. Individuals or groups practise their skipping for two days, and then challenge others by passing the skipping rope on. You can challenge workplaces, groups of friends, sewing circles, book clubs and more. The fun set doesn't place any demands on ability, quantity or speed. The only requirement is to give it a go and take part. You send an email to the following address: hringferd@gmail.com where the name of the participating group is given, followed by the score for each. The encouragement through the movement is specifically aimed at those living with Parkinson's, while also drawing attention to the daily struggle that those diagnosed face. In that daily battle, it is invaluable to have inner strength and willpower.
