Introduction to the municipality's cultural activities

A tradition has developed for students of Applied Cultural Media at the University of Iceland to visit Hafnarfjörður. For the fourth year running, the heads of cultural institutions, the cultural and tourism project manager, and the director of the Service and Development Department gave the group a warm welcome with a presentation on the municipality's cultural work in its many aspects. It is safe to say that culture is amazing, diverse and socially important. As such, the museums in Hafnarfjörður emphasise development and innovation in their operations and outreach in order to better meet the needs of the community at any given time.

Communication in the cultural flora

Applied Cultural Media is a master's degree programme at the University of Iceland that prepares students who wish to work in any form of media for careers in this field. The programme is based on an interdisciplinary approach, and its aim is for students to gain experience that enables them to work in various fields of cultural mediation, both independently and in collaboration with others. The directors of Hafnarborg, the Hafnarfjörður Library and the Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History educated the students about their respective collections, the various collaborative methods of communication, and the developments that are taking place and have a direct impact on the museums' activities. A strong emphasis is placed on reaching as many age groups as possible, ideally everyone, and offering events and exhibitions that appeal to different groups.

Thank you for coming, students!
