Mayor Haraldur L. Haraldsson and Education Director Fanney D. Halldórsdóttir yesterday travelled on the leisure transport service with 40 children. This journey took children from Áslandaskóli, Setbergsskóli and Lækjarskóli to gymnastics training with Björkuna and football training with FH and Haukar.

All children in Year 1 and 2 have the opportunity to use this transport, which departs from all the town's schools. Initially, transport is only provided for training sessions with Björk, and football training with FH and Haukar. However, this is an initial step towards shortening children's working hours, and it is being considered whether it will be possible to transport children to the Music School. In addition, other sports and leisure clubs will be given the opportunity to be included in this transport service. Today, nearly 300 children are registered for the transport service, and registration is done on My Pages on www.hafnarfjordur.is.

The Education Committee decided that the transport would be free of charge for parents, but most have purchased a place for their children at after-school clubs, which can run until 5 p.m. each day.

The coach service is provided by Hópbílar, a company that has long been responsible for transporting primary school pupils to swimming and PE lessons. To ensure the children's safety and supervision, a member of staff from the after-school club accompanies each coach.
