At the first meeting of the new Hafnarfjörður Town Council, which has just concluded, the coalition agreement for the new majority of the 2018–2022 council was presented, and members were elected to the town's boards and committees.
Ágúst Bjarni Garðarsson was elected chairman of the town council and Kristinn Andersen president of the town board. Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the outgoing chairman of the town council, was then appointed mayor and will start work tomorrow, 21 June.
Councillors from the Independence Party and the Progressive Party and Independents have entered into a pact on the formation of a majority in the town council, entitled „Improved Services, a Better Town“. The agreement states that the emphasis is on „family matters, senior citizens and efficient services for the benefit of residents and businesses.“
Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the new mayor, is looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead and is optimistic about the new coalition partnership. „We sit here on behalf of the residents, our goals are clear and we will get started straight away. The plan is to improve the efficiency of the municipality and enhance the service provided to residents. We are going to make Hafnarfjörður even better.“
Ágúst Bjarni Garðarsson, chairman of the town council, agrees with Rósa and adds, „We are putting forward a specific vision for the future, about how we can make a good town even better. We are emphasising issues for families with children, senior citizens and housing. That is the main theme of this coalition agreement between the parties,“ says Ágúst Bjarni.
